Last November, I stopped working and asked God to please open a door that would allow me to serve Him on the "front lines" in full-time ministry.

Approx 2 months passed.

Then, a few weeks ago...I was offered a full-time ministry position w/a Salvation Army church (called a "corps") in Oil City, Pa.

Here's a recent quote from an article by our own Larry Shallenberger about Oil City:

Men's Bible Study:

I have accepted a full-time ministry position with the Salvation Army in Oil City, Pa.

1.) This is an incredible direct answer to prayer.

2.) We will not be moving. I will be commuting and will be thankful for the opportunity to do so.

3.) I will be part of the three person evangelical ministry team for this chapel.

"Snapshots", forever frozen in my mind's eye, cataloging moments witnessed during a full and diverse life.

Every week, we hold a men's Bible study class on Sun mornings at Grace Church.

One of the first things we always do in class is take the passage we are working on and each write a 10-12 word paraphrase of that passage.

I first learned this study technique from Pastor Derek and have found it VERY helpful when I first begin studying a particular passage.

It pretty much works like this:

One of my favorite passages of the Bible is Mark 4:31-45

One of the things that stands out to me about this passage is how, in a lot of ways, it seems to reverse the story of Jonah...yet end with a comparable message:

Almost 13 years ago, I was traveling North on I-77 from Parris Island, SC to Seneca, Pa.

At the same time, a very pretty girl was also traveling North on I-77 from Vero Beach, Fl to Clvlnd, OH.

Somewhere near the NC/SC border...this very pretty girl passed me on the interstate...glanced over....and gave a cute little nervous wave.

I smiled back.

Many miles later, we stopped at the same gas station.

I walked up to her car and unleashed my best opening line:
